wow, you couldn't pay me enough to take those pictures! And there is no way I would have pulled that trigger if I was a shooter!

Yeah this is really dumb. First I understand they have a high amount of respect for how well they shoot but come on........

What if someone sneezed or had a slip or tripped? Same goes for the cameraman.

This is piss poor gun safety etiquette and promotes risk taking adventures to curious children or morons out there watching. I would not tolerate this at any range and would not participate in such dangerous risk taking.

That's just me though. Hell this is probably the norm down in the south.

JHFC. Had I been on the line I'd have walked off, after screaming at the line officer for allowing anything like this to go on, then a trip to the range owner for another screaming match. You simply cannot allow stupid shit like this to happen, period.

That is simply an unbelievable level of stupidity . . .

He could probably have gotten better shots under safer, more controlled conditions.

It appears to be a video from Tactical Response. If so it's their own private range and instructors. They can do what they want.

Unfortunately some dumb asses are going to see it and think it's OK to do.

If it is as it appears, then--wow. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if the two guys closest to him were firing blanks. No new holes appear in their targets (and note how large the existing holes are). Also, I don't see any impacts into the berm for the shooter on the right, although the angle may not be right. I DO see them for other shooters farther down the line.

But even blanks can kill, and have. However, since he's gone to such great length to get those pictures, I'd like to see them...

Social Darwinian theory in action is fun to watch - from a safe distance.

I'm guessing this dmf is unfamiliar with those devices known as camera tripods.

Reportedly the South Afrikan Special Task Force go one step further in their hostage rescue training. They alternate turns being a hostage with a cardboard cutouts surrounding them in an empty room. Their team mates bust in the room and shoot up the bad guys w/o shooting the good guy using live rounds. Quite a bit different than a static dispay shown in the video.

Could not find video reference but I did find this video showing their initial training and on the obstacle course the recruits are being shot at using live rounds. Reportedly there have been deaths from accidental shootings but far fewer than one would expect.

Also, can someone comment if the video displays ok? Been having problems posting links.

Using a remote to capture the images would have been the way to go. RO Fail

Video was fine? Not quite sure I would "want it enough" to go through that training though.

As far as I'm concerned the Photographer can do whatever He wants.
He is a grown man. If He trusted those shooters enough to do that, what business is it of mine? If He gets His head blown off it's His own damn fault.
Again none of my business.
We all say we want liberty and freedom but we all have some of the "Nanny" State force my will on someone else in us.
As long as His actions do not jeapordize me, go for it.

Nobody said the guy should be hanged for this, people can still opine that his actions weren't very smart.

Big Country 06-16-2009 11:09 AM

Re: Wow! No way!

I have no problem with him sitting there taking pictures if we wants to *shrug* but I can PROMISE you that I wouldn't be shooting if he was there.

I know that I could hit the target 99/100 times at that range, but would I take that chance? No, I would not.

Ps - sorry if this is a dumb question but how does someone get killed when shooting a blank?

My first job at 7 was shooting the birds out of my grandpa's cherry orchard with a smooth bore Daisy 25 pump BB gun[accurate enough to 60 feet]. Thought nothing of haveing a "trick shot" with a 22 shoot the spades out of a 5 of spades from 30 feet or so away held in my hand at a noon time demonstration in grade school back in the 50's[I was probabally 11 or 12]. Figured that I could do it, so why couldn't he?

Stupid is as stupid does...

Then again is that truly genetic, or floride, vaccinations, HFCS, or just plain bad advice from another moron...

We will never know.

Most of the south is probably the same area as where Hoot came from.

Man...

Things have really changed...

And people are noticing.

All we can do is disavow any ties we have with the beast.

This will bring it down.

Of course this depends on if you have any ties from them that continues your support.

Examine yourself...

How good do you have it...

Are you willing to die for what you believe...

Will your children, and their children, and their great great great children be able to benefit from your actions...

Think about it.

I do like the interviewer: "Do you feel like an idiot now?" "Do you think any law enforcement agency would want you after a stupid stunt like this?" Amazingly he still thinks he's police material! If he'd only been shot through the nads instead of the heart...
